Lamp re-vamp

Most of you know, we are in the middle of buying a house, selling our house and moving to another city so, I've not blogged in a good long while... especially a crafty-how-to blog.  Well, today, I got my paint and my Frog tape out and re-vamped my lamp!

I found this funkadelic pendant light on Pinterest... and ohhhh how I want this in our new house!

But this baby ain't cheap!  {$328.00}  And I'd need TWO!

So I started thinking about how I could have this look by re-vamping something I already have.

Welp, I came across a lamp that's just been sitting in a closet and I thought "Hey! I'mma try somethin".

So.. I took this here lamp 

(my sincerest apologies for the super crappy pictures!)

And I started making stripes using my tape. I used the width of the tape to "measure" my widths of the stripes.  

After all... it's Frog tape... the stuff is amazing because it doesn't remove the paint or leave any kind of residue behind. 

 &I used a black dry erase marker to mark my spots.

And I painted my striped black with regular ol' acrylic craft paint.

 I then taped over the black, leaving a teensy bit of the gold to show and painted off white (I just mixed white acrylic with a touch of gold) and got this...

I added some embellishing/personalization and VOILA!

I most definitely need a new shade!  Not diggin the shade!! 

And I'll also spray a glossy sealer over it for added protection. :)

Day dreams and design

I have been day dreaming, via Pinterest, about the new house we have not yet bought or moved in to!  We found it... You know.. the "one"... howevs, until we sell our sweet humble abode, it's not yet ours.  Pssht!  When have I ever let a little technicality like that stop me from moving on and right in {in a manner of speaking}.  I mean, if I can't do projects in my current house (bc for some crazy reason my realtor thinks perspective buyers wouldn't take too kindly to it.... whoever heard!!)  I just assume design and dream online.

So here are some of my inspirations for our new digs....  You can get a feel for the direction I'm going anyway.  A little traditional-glammy-eclectic, if you will.

btw... in case you didn't know or couldn't tell... I'm a little in love with the color pink. In all it's magnificent shades!

I actually bought replicas of these sweet little white chairs off Craig's list!  I'm so pumped!  As of now, mine will not be white.  They'll be gold with hot pink cushions.  I'm liable to change my mind AT LEAST a dozen times, so don't hold me to it.  For now, it's just a thought.

And I love the curtains!  But, I don't know if I'm all in for solid tho. Hmmm....  See... another benefit to online design!  Change your mind as much as you'd like without it costing a single penny.  :)

Bought me some crystal lamps from the ol Goodwill and I most DEFINITELY will be making these shades for them!  The perfect amount of funk!

Ok... now these 2 picts are just too fun!  Who knows if I'll actually do it... But MAN do they ever make me smile  ;)  Knowing me (and I know me!) I'll say "Aw to heck with it... why not!!"  and do it!  Guess you'll just have to wait and see. ;)

My bedroom will be painted a Celery Green.... I think.  This Kelly green is growing on me too.  

My sweet hubby has been warned... we WILL be making a fabric headboard {tufted~ if I can get my nerve up}

And I'm sorry... but you can NEVER EVER go wrong with Lucite! ESPECIALLY when it's paired with white leather and brass!  I mean com'mon! Seriously!

Be Nice or Leave

To say we are all just a little addicted to Pinterest would be a gross understatement!  You know it. I know it.  If there hasn't been a support group in your area, maybe you should start one...  

Nah!!!  

Who are we kidding... I mean, who wants to give up Pinterest?!  Not THIS girl!

So. I made a decision.

I am going to finally get off my kiester and MAKE SOMETHING!  I even have a folder named

 "Things I really must accomplish" 

to help push me in that direction!  {I'm not lazy, really.. just a procrastinator!  A major procrastinator... As in QUEEN of PROCRASTINATION (and spider webbing... but that's another post, another time)"}

Ok.. so here is one of the very first things I saw and pinned. I LOVED this!!

Don't you just LOVE it?! I not only love the chair, but I simply love what it says!  "Why?" you wonder? 

Because  I have 3 teenage daughters!  With that.. comes arguing, bickering and complaining. 

ALL. THE. FREAKIN. TIME.  

When they can't seem to get their crap together and we've had enough, we yell at them to get outta here and go upstairs!  ask them kindly to leave the room!

But now... we don't have to ask.  We don't have to utter a word!  

We. Can. Just. Point!  

and I LIKE that idea!

And since I don't have this fancy a house, with the fancy chair, I improvised....  (and you can too!)

Like me, you can go to Goodwill.

So you get it home and lay it out on your paint sheet; like this.


[Oh Wow.. It's really quite large!]

4 cans x 5 cans!


GAH!!  IT'S PERFECT!

Then. You grab this, this and this.
 {cuz we're super fancy like that!}

 Then, you spray 2-3 coats of the Chalkboard paint all over the faux painting;  like this.

And  you use the paper bag to shield the board so you can paint the frame; like this.

**What can I say... I stun even myself with how improvisional I am sometimes.  HAHA  ;) **
{yes huh, it's a word!}

 
And if you get a little over-spray, like this... don't fret..

You've got a paper bag.  You can spray over it.  Like this.

Then, you'll end up with something quite nice.. Like this!

Now... You need to use a piece of chalk to "prime" your board; like this.

Then wipe it off with a damp towel.



Position your letters, you know, the one's you got from Hobby Lobby for half price!! 

and fill in the letters with chalk, so you can have something that's as spectacular
