Learning about your camera {visual virtual class}

Hey y'all!!

I wanted to share a GREAT teaching resource with you!!

When I went to Haven (read about that here) back in June, I had the privilege of being a student in an awesome photography and staging class...

Meet Josh and Kevin

Some of you may know Kevin from The Lettered Cottage (an awesome blog Kevin and his wife, Layla do together).  Well, he and his bff Josh have their own photography and photoshop training business online!!  They teach the layman (that'd be me... and you?) how to use our DSLR camera.
I love that they use terms we can all identify with while giving you visual lessons.  You can go at your own pace by using the PAUSE button and the REWIND button to hear things again and again (features that I happen to love because the more I hear/see it, the more it "sticks". ya know)

Shoot Fly Shoot

Isn't that just the best name?!
Well, let me tell ya... they taught me SO much about my camera!

Like what??

Like, I AM SMARTER THAN MY CAMERA!

What exactly does that mean??

Go to the top of my blog in the upper left corner and click on the icon for shootFLYshoot and take a class!!  BEST decision you ever could've made to learn about making your camera work for you!

Let me know your thoughts! I'd love to hear what you have to say!

hugs,

k.

If you don't have a DSLR camera, but are in the market for one, they tell you their recommendations on their blog~  ;)

Loving on our true blue living!

Hi ya friends!

LIFE and I had a little chat and it graciously allowed me just enough time to post our new blue living!

 But first, remember the yellow??

There was nothing wrong with the yellow.  I liked the yellow.  Sometimes, you just "know" it's asking to be changed.

(please tell me you know what it is I'm talking about. I'm a bit mental, I do know this to be true...)

If you want to see more pictures of our yellow living space.. go here.

Go ahead... I'll wait.

♥ ♥ ♥

Drum roll please....

I L♥VE the feeling the blue produces!

It's so open and airy...
and
 coastal!

And pshhht,  who wouldn't want to live in a coastal atmosphere!

***********************************
My paint color is Benjamin Moore Sea Salt.
Behr was running a buy 4 get one free, so I color matched. I used their all in one primer/paint and I don't think I'll ever use anything else!! It's amazing!

************************************

OH MY GOSH... I completely forgot to ask you...
How do you like the jute rug?!?!
We totally love it!

********************************************

I like all my blue tone pillows, but I'm kinda missing the pink ones like they were in the yellow walled photos.  I have a sneaky feeling after this week, they'll all be back to pink hues!

Eventually I plan to wall paper the back of this armoire.
I just haven't decided in what color/pattern/texture.
(go figure)

side note... Turn all your lamps OFF when shooting pics!!
I kept this shot on here so you could see how big of a role lighting plays

The Front room...

You can find the "Be nice or Leave" project here.
Everyone who leaves sees it and always gives a giggle ;)

I decided to paint the kitchen a shade darker.  I went with Copen Blue, also by Benjamin Moore and color matched with Behr all in one primer/paint.

How bout my curtains?!  Found the bottom half at Goodwill for $9.99 and I went to JoAnn's for the additional fabric to lengthen them, as well as the trim!  PERFECTLY matches!
AND...
They're totally NO-SEW!!!

One last look... then comment away!! I'd really love to hear what you think! :)
{but only if you like it}

hugs,

k.

A dresser, some spray paint, and a love for color!

I have had this dresser for about a bazillion and one years and I've always wanted to paint it. I just never knew WHAT color to paint it. Which is not surprising. I'm the Queen of indecision.

 BUT.

When I DO decide.... I GO BIG or GO HOME! Here she is before... (lurvin her curves!)

FIRST

I sanded all surfaces with fine grit paper on my handy little Ryobi sander.

THEN

I wiped it all down with a tack cloth

And since I love me some spray paint, I opted to use spray primer and spray paint.

Remember when I said "GO BIG or GO HOME"?
Well, how about Kelly Green!!  Is THAT big enough?!

(I've never used Valspar before.  My brands of choice have always been Rustoleum or Kyrlon... and they still are).  :\

3 coats and an over-spray tan!  Are you green with envy?!  HA!

Repeat the sanding and wiping, priming and spraying.

Expect your house to get a little junk-a-fide with drawer contents.
{and if you're lucky, you'll find a bee pinata in the mix ;) }

Tip:  If it's humid outside, bring your drawers (furniture) inside to dry and acclimate.

And remember the brass hardware?  It was lookin a little worse for wear!

But after a good salt/vinegar/water soakin' and scrubbin... good as new!! :)

TA-DAAAA!!!

((please note that no matter how many pictures I took, I could not quite capture the true Kelly Green!  It's so rich and stunning in person!)

So wha'cha think??
Are you diggin the green as much as me??
Would YOU go this big....or would you just go home?? ;)

hugs,

k.

My home... The Chicken Coup!

As most of you know, I lovingly refer to my kids as "chickens".
What you may not know is why....

Have you ever had a day where all you hear (in tandem) is

"Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", "Mom", " MOMM",

"MOMMMMMM!"

"Can I have this..." , "Can I have that.."

" Can we go here....",  "Can we go there...."

"Can so and so come over?"

NON-STOP!  BY ALL YOUR KIDS.... AT. THE. SAME. TIME!

And your brain is like

"FOR PETE'S SAKE, WOMAN!! MAKE IT STOPPPPPP!!!!"

Welp... this is why lovingly refer to my kids as chickens!

And I wouldn't want to be in any other coup but mine! :)

What about you?  Do you have chickens, too??

k.
