OK. Imma do somethin' just a little bit outta the ordinary here.
I am commissioning YOU and YOUR ideas for a room make over!
Our front room, aka the formal dining room, is currently getting a make over. And with any makeover, you need accessories.. right?! Well then... accessories it shall get!

I found this sweet gem at Goodwill for $19.99. Ain't she cute! The moment I saw those spindle legs with those cute little wheels, I knew I just had to have her!
But her current state was, let's just say, SAD... PATHETIC... HO-HUM! SO... what's a girl to do??
Two words...
SPRAY. PAINT!
And baby... GO BOLD, OR GO HOME!!
(and since I am home.. I went BOLD!)
I was now on a quest for a color palate. To create a fun, maybe even a little funky-cuz-that's-just-who-I-am, room. Then I found this amazing fabric at Hobby Lobby and well...
a (somewhat) color palate was born! :)
I added some fun trim and voila! Curtain panels!
NEXT... the walls:
For Christmas I received several James Audubon prints and I knew they would look just perfect in my room! I have a thing for birds. The funkier the better.
Don't you love the gold tray?? Would you believe it's a $1.99 bamboo tray from Goodwill that I spray painted gold?? I love it! Oh, and the vase.. yea, that's a Goodwill find too. A whopping $3.99!
(pot and plant from Ikea. Lamp from TJMaxx, years ago! It's probably not staying. It's merely here for a visit.)
I found this totally FUNKY light at IKEA!! I've not purchased it yet... but it's next on the list! I think it will look sooo great above my table!
So as of now... here's the room.... It's not done. Not by a long shot!
Obviously, I need that totally fab light ~ like asap...
And I am planning to buy a drop cloth to make my own round rug! (I am PUMPED about this "OMGSH-I've-never-done-THIS-before" project!)
But I want YOUR help to pull the rest together!
YES, YOU! My super fabulous decorating divas!
(my apologies for the terrible photos. They had to be taken with my iphone and these are the best I could get)
I am looking at this picture thinking "UGH... this room looks too "formal", too "put together", way too "stuffy"... I gotta funk it up!
But first things first....
I inherited that gorgeous table from my MIL and I am totally in love with it! It was her mother's and I am honored to have it! BUT I want to paint it! (don't worry.. I got her permission first)
Question is... WHAT COLOR??
I'm leaning towards white... OR mayyyyybe even a bright YELLOW!?
And
These super duper comfy chairs were FREE! I totally scored here! I plan to spray paint the exposed wood on the arms and the legs gold and recover them...
Maybe with black and white chevron or hounds tooth?? (DIY project!!)
Maybe yellow or orange? Or a funky green or aqua?
GAH!!
I also want to paint my walls...
But what color?? Bright white? Or something more WOW??
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!
Leave me a comment below (or on facebook) and tell me YOUR thoughts.. YOUR ideas!
I'm listening~

k.

I. LOVE. THAT. PINK.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
And I never find deals like that. Never, ever.
The light at IKEA is fab. I'll have to send you a pic of some I bought there 3 Christmases ago when they were on sale. They drape over my windows in place of curtains and when I plug them in...voila!
Looks like stars.
And that's about the coolest thing about me.
You, however...got it going on!
Carrie... You are SOO good for my ego, girl! ;)
DeleteAnd, I wanna see your lights!
This is so brave and fabulous! I'm really working on contrasting my colors and not being Miss Matchy-match. I think the walls should be mainly bright white since you've got a lot of color that's going to be going on. Maybe a funky-cool double chevron, one the pink, the other the blue or the bright yellow. Can't wait to see finished product! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! I love your pink dresser!!! so beautiful!! you can link to my party if you'd like :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I'm kinda lovin it too ;)
DeleteAnd I would be honored! Thank you!!
I think I'd go white for the table. :) I think white looks so clean & fresh. :)
ReplyDeleteGinger @ gingersnapcrafts.com
Yeah... I'm really leaning towards white too! I don't want it looking hodge-podgey, ya know! Eclectic=YES ; HodgePodge=NO.
DeleteThanks for weighing in!! :)
Such great ideas...and what is up with my over priced Goodwill? For the table...I think white bottom and a refinished stained top... I love this look! Can't wait to see what you do, Lori
ReplyDeleteLori, Whoever priced the dresser must have been new bc I assure you.. normally, I am in sticker shock over their stuff! The stars aligned.. that's it. ;)
DeleteAnd I can't refinish the top bc it's laminate. (weird, I know!!) BUT when I paint it, it'll be a super smooth surface ;)
Thanks for weighing in!
Love the color you painted. It's bright and fun! I say go white for your table. I'm scouting a white ikea table right now for my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThank you! So far, white's winning ;) You know what I really want from Ikea? Those super fab Lucite chairs!!!! OMG!!
DeleteHmmmm....I am thinking yellow? You could do the base white nad top yellow to tone it down, but I think yellow with the blue would look fab. You could do the chair arms/legs white as well to coorinate, but not be matchy-matchy. I think yellow would be fun for so many reasons. And let me tell you about that dresser...it is a fabulous find for $20! I am green with envy! Would love for you to stop by my Creative Inspirations linky party happening tomorrow to link up your creations!

Thank you so much!! :)
DeleteI love the pink dresser. Great price. I found one similar at the Salvation Army and it was sponged orange so I go it for 35 bucks. I would find a large mirror to go above it and paint it pink also. I would paint your table white and go with the black and white gingham or hounds tooth fabric if you are looking for fun. I would take down the oval mirror on the right of the shelving and the frame on the left of the shelving. I would add alot more shelving with photo frames of family and friends all over. I would use longer shelves and make this wall a focal point. Or instead, put up a couple of large prints/paintings with bold colour like your pink dresser. Paint the walls white. The chandelier either goes or is painted or buy the absolutely fabulous light shade you posted.
ReplyDeleteI am sure whatever you do will look great. Hey you painted your dresser pink so you already have great taste and imagination.
Cheers, Sheryl at www.daisyexpress.blogspot.com
What a beautiful piece of furniture!!
ReplyDeleteLove that you went pink! I have a small console table in the foyer that I painted Razzle Dazzle (hot pink) and I get more "I love that" comments on that one piece than I would have ever thought! Have fun with it.. Great bold choice! - Susan
ReplyDeleteThat pink is fantastic! I love it. :) Megan
ReplyDeleteMy first choice is white, too........would match the shelves on the wall. But, second choice is yellow. I love yellow and blue together. Can't wait to see what you decide. Hey, Im your newest follower. So, please come visit me and maybe you'll decide to follo back. THANKS.
ReplyDeleteYellow and blue are wonderful together. I am curious what that will do to the pink dresser piece though. At first I thought, that pink dresser is bold - how is that going to come together? Then,...when I saw the entire room, I totally changed - oh yeah, that looks amazing. Nice job. Clearly I'm too timid, lol. Thanks so much for sharing at our Link It Up Thursday party.
ReplyDeleteWow...what a deal and what a transformation!! Love the pink!!! thank you for sharing at Uncommon!
ReplyDeleteBonnie ;)
Thank you Bonnie! Thanks for coming by and leaving love! :)
DeleteI still think yellow and maybe with some funky patterned pillows. I think and blue, yellow, white theme would be stunning. You could do a basic white wall with a yellow stencil to tie it in... I found this great idea on Lolly Jane Boutique - here's the link:

Hi Stacey!
DeleteI love the idea of stenciling a wall for drama. Do you not think it'd be too busy with my curtains? That's my main concern. I have made some changes, which I am pleased as punch about, but it's still a work in progress. (Haven't touched the walls.)
The weather here has been wonky and windy to my projects have been on hold.. however this weekend, I've gotten somethings done :) Hoping to have something to link up THIS week!! Thanks for the love and the advice!
Awesome job so far! Loving the colors. As far as the walls...I'm thinking two words: FEATURE. WALL. Maybe take the back wall with the shelving, and do a neat chevron pink pattern or just a solid pink or whatever funky color or design you'd like :)
ReplyDeleteJacy, I like where you're going with this! I've been concerned about the pattern in the curtains competing with a feature wall, but pink chevron may be JUST what I need to do! It's clean and linear! Woohoo! Thank ya ma'am! :)
DeleteExcellent work! I love how the pink really brings out the detail in the dresser. Thank you so much for linking up with me at Drab to Fab last week! Hope you'll join me again with more of your great ideas!
